Predictive maintenance
Infrared Thermography
Non-contact thermal imaging inspections that detect overheating connections, overloaded circuits, and failing equipment before they cause outages or fires.
See What You Can't See With the Naked Eye
Heat is one of the earliest and most reliable indicators of an electrical problem. Loose connections, overloaded conductors, failing insulation, and unbalanced loads all generate excess heat long before they produce visible damage or cause a fault. Infrared thermography uses thermal imaging cameras to detect these temperature anomalies while equipment is energized and under load — with no interruption to operations.
J. Wesley Services Group performs infrared thermography inspections in accordance with NFPA 70B and NETA standards. Our technicians are trained in thermographic analysis and deliver detailed reports that identify anomalies, classify their severity, and recommend corrective action — giving maintenance teams the information they need to prioritize repairs before a failure occurs.
What Infrared Thermography Detects
- Loose or corroded electrical connections generating resistance heat
- Overloaded conductors, fuses, and circuit breakers
- Unbalanced three-phase loads in switchgear and panelboards
- Failing or deteriorated insulation on cables and bus
- Defective or failing transformer windings and bushings
- Motor and drive overheating conditions
- Blocked or failing cooling systems in transformers and switchgear
- Arcing and partial discharge activity in enclosed equipment
Equipment We Inspect
Switchgear and Switchboards
Medium- and low-voltage switchgear, metal-clad and metal-enclosed assemblies, and distribution switchboards. Thermal imaging identifies hot spots in bus connections, breaker contacts, and cable terminations.
Transformers
Power and distribution transformers, including bushings, tap changers, cooling fins, and connection points. Thermal anomalies in transformer components often indicate developing insulation or cooling system problems.
Motor Control Centers
MCC buckets, starters, overload relays, and bus connections. Overheating in motor control equipment is a leading cause of unplanned production downtime.
Panelboards and Load Centers
Branch circuit breakers, neutral and ground connections, and feeder terminations. Loose connections in panelboards are a common fire hazard that thermography reliably identifies.
Cable Terminations and Splices
Medium- and low-voltage cable terminations, splices, and bus connections. Thermal anomalies at termination points indicate connection degradation or improper installation.
Overhead Lines and Bus
Outdoor overhead conductors, insulators, and bus connections at substations and industrial facilities. Thermal imaging identifies hot spots that are impossible to detect by visual inspection alone.
